Dr Thomas Smith joins us in 2007 as a lecturer in Education Studies. Thomas has recently retired from the position of Head of Religious Studies and Junior Science teacher at Cranbrook. Formerly Director, Anglican Youth Department and Special Religious Education Consultant, Sydney Anglican Board of Education, Thomas brings a lifetime of wide experience in school education and Christian education to MCSI. He is already at work assisting in the Christian Perspectives on Schooling in Australia. In first semester he will take the lead in offering the postgraduate unit Towards a Christian Theory of Education: Knowing to a group of teachers at St Paul’s Grammar School, Cranebrook. Thomas’ PhD thesis proposed that morally mature people have formed an identity that incorporates an orientation to act by agape (self-giving love) toward others. Thomas is married to Rosemary and he worships at Northmead Uniting Church.
